Framework is an audiovisual concept and collection of open, hand-drawn graphic scores and recordings. The series includes Nielsen’s own subjective translations of the visual material, as well as a curated series of interpretations by artists such as Andrea Neumann (DE).
Framework 1 — published as arbitrary01 in December 2014 and first performed in 2015, then installed at ICMC 2016 (NL) — consists of mainly linear scores, visually and conceptually inspired by Cornelius Cardew’s Treatise (1963–67), scores / drawings by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Else Marie Pade (DK) and various architectural drawings.
Framework 2 is currently in production and will be more fragmented and collage-like in terms of its visual and musical output. The second publication in the series will also contain guidelines and instructions about the technical aspects of production and/or performance, such as channels, panning, dynamics and sound sources.
